The earliest recorded date in the history of the Armourers & Brasiers' Company is January 1322 when the Guild of St George of the Armourers was instituted, by ordinance of the City of London.
In 2022 the Company celebrated its 700th Anniversary with a programme of events and projects to mark this significant moment in our history.
Our principal legacy project is the endowment in perpetuity of the Armourers & Brasiers' Chair in Materials Science at Imperial College London. The endowment represents the largest gift ever made by the Armourers & Brasiers.
The first postholder of the Armourers & Brasiers' Chair is Professor Mary Ryan who gave her inaugural lecture as part of the A&B 700 celebrations.
