Charitable Work

The Company has engaged in charitable work since it was founded, but in 1979 it created the Armourers & Brasiers Gauntlet Trust to bring together its various charitable funds. The Trust makes grants to good causes under the heading of Community; Armed Forces; Youth & Education; Health; the Arts, Arms & Armour. Applicants to our good causes occasional grants programme should look at our Guidelines for Funding before applying.

Approximately 75% of the Trust's giving each year is in support of science at each stage of education with an increasing focus on support for Materials Science at the later stages. Materials Science is the modern discipline most closely aligned to the Armourers & Brasiers' ancient craft of working with metals, as well as being an invaluable contributor to skilled high-value manufacturing in the UK.  More information about our work in support of science education and Materials Science is available here

The Trust works closely with the Royal Society, the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, the Royal Academy of Engineering and other scientific insitutions on joint activities in support of Materials Science.  It has increased the scope of its support of materials science by forming charitable partnerships with Tata, AWE, Rolls-Royce and TWI.
