6th Form Materials Prize

The Armourers and Brasiers TATA 6th Form Materials Prize

The Armourers and Brasiers Sixth Form Materials Prize is a competition being offered through the Armourers and Brasiers' materials science partnership with Tata Steel.  It is designed to support schools in encouraging students to develop a sustained interest in STEM careers.

Finalists and their schools receive cash prizes.

The competition provides structured opportunities for students in year 12, who are studying at least one post-16 course in a STEM subject, to find out more about Materials Science and Engineering and to enhance and enrich their studies.

Under the guidance of science or design and technology teachers, students compile a portfolio of experience by completing two compulsory modules and two optional modules, using downloadable support materials.  Each participating school selects its five best portfolios to enter for the national competition.  Finalists are invited to give presentations to a panel of judges at Armourers' Hall before the Tata Steel Awards Ceremony.

The prize is administered on behalf of the Armourers and Brasiers by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.  Further information and details of how to register are available on the Institute's website at www.iom3.org/A&B-TataPrize.  Enquiries should be directed to diane.aston@iom3.org
